This Diploma course at Sanuk College of Arts and Design -SCAAD is designed to provide learners with necessary skills and Knowledge to develop prototype and projects for both business and individual. The course is equivalent to the third year of an interior design undergraduate course.
The Diploma in Interior Design is designed for students seeking a career in residential and commercial interior design fields. Students undertaking this course will highly benefit on the necessary skills to advance their career.
Interior design Level 6 consists of competencies that an individual must achieve to perform interior designs of residential and public buildings in effective manner and cost saving. It entails conceptualizing interior design, communicating interior design, performing interior costing, managing interior design projects, performing interior design finishing, performing interior design soft furnishing, performing interior design lighting, developing interior furniture and fixtures, applying building materials science, demonstrating colour theory, demonstrating information communication technology (ICT),creating interior design styles, designing acoustic interior spaces, constructing building elements and components, managing interior fittings and accessories and applying design fundamentals.
Students will also study advanced design theory, commercial space planning, sustainability practices, codes and barrier-free compliance, lighting, design history, advanced 2D & 3D visual communication, critical reading and writing, construction drawings, and architectural millwork. Students will gain hands-on experience to expand their understanding of millwork details and assembly. Students will achieve both a strong academic and technical foundation on completion of this program. Students learn from industry-based faculty and develop extensive practical skills for rewarding careers.
The Diploma course also focuses on commercial design including hospitality, offices, Hospitals, Residential, and retail environments.
After successfully studying this course, the student will have gain necessary skills in the interior Design Industry. As well as helping you to progress onto postgraduate level study, the course will also aid your transition into the professional world of interior design.
After successfully completing Certificate course, students will advance to pursue this Diploma course
Upon completion of the Diploma program, students who are eligible may continue to the Bachelor of Interior Design program.

Entry Requirements
An individual entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- (minus)
Or
- Certificate in Interior Design Level 5
Or
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
And/or
- As may be guided by relevant regulatory body.

- Personal and professional development: You’ll have opportunities to improve your skills through bespoke sessions, talks with industry practitioners and postgraduate seminars.
- Access to Chelsea’s shared workshops: These include ceramics, casting, laser cutting, photography, audio-visual editing, metal and woodwork.
- Critical Thinking Skills: You will learn more skills on Critical thinking and brainstorming.
Industry Experience and Opportunities
Students will be invited to take part in a ‘Live’ project competition to design to an external client’s brief. The client type, programme and opportunity will vary each year. Students are encouraged to attend trade fairs, exhibitions, conferences and other industry events to network with professionals.
