Course Description:
This unit equips learners with the knowledge and practical competencies required to design, construct, and install interior furniture and fixtures for residential, commercial, and institutional spaces. The course integrates creativity, technical skills, and industry standards to ensure learners can meet both functional and aesthetic requirements in interior design projects.
The training covers the end-to-end process, from analyzing client needs and determining suitable furniture/fixtures to material selection, fabrication, layout planning, installation, and long-term maintenance. Learners will also be introduced to digital tools for furniture visualization and contemporary trends in furniture and fixture design.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify and analyze interior furniture and fixture requirements for different spaces.
- Select appropriate materials, finishes, and fittings based on durability, cost, and design.
- Develop sketches, technical drawings, and digital models for furniture and fixtures.
- Construct furniture and fixtures using relevant tools, joinery methods, and finishing techniques.
- Create efficient and aesthetic layouts for furniture and fixtures placement.
- Install furniture and fixtures safely and to professional standards.
- Apply maintenance practices to ensure longevity and quality of furniture and fixtures.

Course Structure (3 Months):
- Month 1: Fundamentals & Design Conceptualization
- Introduction to furniture and fixture design
- Space planning and ergonomic principles
- Materials selection (wood, metal, glass, fabrics, composites)
- Technical drawing and digital design basics
- Month 2: Construction & Fabrication
- Joinery methods and carpentry skills
- Upholstery and finishing techniques
- Fixtures (shelves, cabinetry, partitions, fittings)
- Workshop-based practical sessions
- Month 3: Installation & Maintenance
- Furniture and fixture layout planning
- On-site installation procedures and safety practices
- Maintenance, repairs, and refinishing techniques
- Project work: Designing and fabricating a complete furniture/fixture set
Assessment:
- Practical projects and workshops (60%)
- Written/visual assignments (20%)
- Final project presentation & installation (20%)
Certification:
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Certificate in Interior Furniture & Fixtures from Sanuk College of Arts & Design.
